In the app and in the browser we count how the games are played. So the app opened, a game started, a game finished, which mode, how many players, which category, the language and the country set on your phone. Counters.
With that goes a random number the app or the page makes up itself. That number is not Apple's advertising identifier and not the number you have in a room. It says nothing about who you are.
Names, room codes and anything you type are not counted.
To send the counters, your phone or browser also gets a random number from Firebase, the same one used for rooms and the feedback button. That number does not go into the counters. Firebase keeps it, and your phone or browser remembers it, so there is no new one on every visit.
Rather not? Switch off "Share anonymous play counts". It sits in the feedback sheet, and on iPhone also in Settings under the name of the app. Switch it off and the app throws the number away and sends nothing more.
Playing across several phones
Play across several phones and Firebase gives your phone a random number. The app uses it to put you in the room. That number is not Apple's advertising identifier and it says nothing about who you are.
If you sign in
Signing in is never required. Without an account you can play everything, only your games are not kept.
Sign in with Apple or with Google and they give us your email address and your name. Pick a hidden address with Apple and we get that hidden address.
Your account then gets a fixed number at Firebase. If you already had a number from a room, your account keeps that number.
Sign in with Google and Google estimates roughly where you are from your IP address. Google does that against fraud. We do not get that location.
We then also keep the games you played: which game, when, the names you played with, your score and your place.
You can sign out in the app. You can also delete your account outright, at the bottom of the same screen. Your games and your profile go with it, and that cannot be undone.
The feedback button
Press the feedback button and we send the text you type.
Speak your message with the microphone button and the speech recognition of your phone or browser turns it into text: Apple's on iPhone and in Safari, Google's in Chrome and on Android. Sometimes that happens on the device itself. We only get the text, never the sound.
In the app this goes with it automatically: your iOS version, your screen size, which screen you had open and the language of the app. That lets us replay a bug.
If signing in failed just before, that error message goes with it too. We strip any email address out of it first.
We do not put your name, your email address or your number on the message.
The Host Pass
The game is free. Whoever hosts can buy the Host Pass once, for extras. Guests never pay.
You buy it through Apple, with your Apple ID. Apple handles the payment. We get no name, no email address and no payment details.
To keep track of your pass, also after a reinstall, we use RevenueCat. RevenueCat gets from Apple what you bought, when, for what price and in which country, with a random number that belongs to your install. RevenueCat is in the United States and uses this only to make the purchase work.
Host a room with the pass and the room only says that the host has the pass. Guests pay nothing and play along with what the host picks, on iPhone, Android and the web.
If your version cannot sell the Host Pass yet, none of this happens.
What we do not keep
No phone number.
No precise location, no contacts, no photos, no health data.
No payment details.
Nothing from other apps.
Where it goes
To Firebase, from Google. Your rooms, games, messages and the counters sit there in our own database, Google Firestore, in the United States.
If you sign in, that goes through Apple or Google.
With every connection Firebase sends a short technical line, including the version of iOS and of Firebase. Google uses that line for its own Firebase statistics. The line does not say who you are.
We sell nothing on and we share nothing with advertisers or data brokers.
There are no adverts and no third-party trackers in the app.
On Android
The Android app from Google Play is this website, opened in your browser as a full screen app (a Trusted Web Activity). What this page says about the browser applies there too. The app asks for no extra permissions and adds no measurement and no advertising ID of its own.
It opens with a marker in the address (utm_source=android), so the counters can tell Android players from a visit in the browser. Signing in is not possible on Android.
Press the feedback button on Android and this goes with it automatically: the text that was on your screen, which screen it was, the state of the game, your screen size, the language and that it is the Android app. If player names are on the screen, they go with it.
Player names
The names you type into a game stay on the phones that are playing. They are not sent with the measurement.
If you are signed in, the names of the people you played with do sit in your own list of games. Only you see that list.
When you play across several phones the name sits in the room, so the others know who joined. The room stays in the database afterwards. Want it gone, email the address below with the code.
Children
The game is suitable for all ages. Without signing in it never asks for personal details.
Getting your data removed
Signed in? Delete your account in the app, see above.
Or email labs.hkb@gmail.com with the address you sign in with, and we remove it.
Not signed in? Then we do not know who you are. The app never shows your number, so we cannot search by it.
The counters carry no name, so we cannot find them per person. Switch counting off and nothing more is added.
Want a feedback message removed? Email labs.hkb@gmail.com with what you wrote and roughly when.
